Trio collaborate to promote 5.8-GHz wireless power

Ossia, NGK, and Torex have joined forces to create a 5.8-GHz wireless power transfer (WPT) power receiver development kit. The offering combines Ossia’s Cota Real Wireless Power technology with NGK’s EnerCera lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and Torex’s micro DC/DC XCL series of power supply ICs.

Using RF to transfer power over about 10 meters, WPT is attracting attention as a power supply technology that promotes the realization and widespread use of maintenance-free IoT devices. It enables power delivery to places where wiring presents difficulties and eliminates the need to replace batteries.

Ossia’s Cota WPT technology operating in the 5.8-GHz band is expected to be used in a wide range of applications, including power supplies for sensors installed in enterprise environments, retail stores, factories, and warehouses. At the higher frequency of 5.8 GHz, Cota enables smaller receivers and more precise control of the power supply.

The WPT power receiver development kit is expected to be available in 4Q 2022 or earlier based on the Ossia Cota 5.8-GHz system. All three companies will work together to promote the development kit to a growing ecosystem of partners and customers who are looking to implement WPT for their consumer, enterprise, industrial, IoT, medical, and automotive applications.
