Xirgo teams up with Ossia to address COVID-19

During these unprecedented times, I’d like to share with you an example of how my firm, Xirgo Technologies, is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many companies, we are implementing key safety measures, not only for our employees, but also in how we work with our customers and suppliers. Moreover, we are focused on clear communication, something that is always important to drive our business, but is now more important than ever.

Even in this period of uncertainty,  Xirgo has  decided that now is the right time to double down on innovation, both to address the COVID-19 pandemic and  to future-proof key capabilities. This is where Ossia comes in.

At Xirgo, we are a leading supplier of asset trackers, telematics and data solutions to essential businesses. Our customers include some of the largest retail, transportation, and infrastructure providers in the world. Whether you order groceries online or need to remotely monitor the health of your transportation supply chain, there is a good chance that one of our products was used in the process.

Given our role, we know how important it is to provide solutions that meet the specific needs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why we decided to team up with Ossia. We are pleased to build on our previously announced partnership to jointly tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, by collaborating to integrate Cota® Real Wireless Power™ into our expansive product line.

How does incorporating wireless power into our products help address COVID-19?  Here are three ways:

Sterilization

At Xirgo, we are being asked to adapt our products to provide tracking of critical equipment for the medical industry, such as telematic devices for infusion pumps, ventilators, and portable ultrasound machines. These are devices that go in harsh medical environments like operating rooms and ERs. As such, they need to be sterilized between every patient use. Currently, the sterilization process has multiple steps, as devices contain openings and ports where viruses and bacteria can hide. But the cleaning process could be better. Ossia is critical to these efforts.

By incorporating Ossia’s Cota technology into Xirgo’s devices, we can now design our devices to be completely hermetically sealable with a single, smooth enclosure. This is only possible because we no longer need charging ports or permeable housing for batteries, as power is delivered wirelessly over-the-air. As such, sterilizing our devices could be as simple as soaking the devices in bleach! This is a game changer in terms of effectiveness, simplicity, timing, and cost.

Touchless

With Ossia’ Cota technology, our products can finally be truly touchless to the users, a trend we’re all seeing on the rise as consumers buying groceries.  By providing power over-the-air and on-demand, our customers no longer have to worry about handling the devices to replace batteries or charge them. This removes one of the key contact points that affects all portable electronic devices today. The less we have to touch devices, the better!

Support for Demanding Industrial IoT Use Cases using Wireless Power

A third benefit of adding wireless power is that our devices are no longer constrained by the limited power capacity of batteries, so we can provide a richer feature set, including more real-time updates for enhanced cloud connectivity. More power means more functionality and automation! Both are required to massively scale and future-proof our products.

At Xirgo, our mission is, and has always been, to provide the most innovative and best-in-class solutions to our customers. To this end, we are excited to continue investing in our partnership with Ossia to advance this mission!
